To celebrate 50 years as a learning community, St. Stephen’s University is inviting our many supporters, friends, and alumni who are spread across the globe to consider supporting us through our new monthly donation campaign: Become an SSU Bridge Builder!

Become an SSU bridge builder to celebrate 50 years of transformative education.

From our modest beginnings on July 15, 1975, when six brave students and a small group of faculty and staff launched SSU in local rented spaces, this remarkable University has evolved into a well-regarded graduate school of theology, peace and reconciliation with brilliant students of all backgrounds from all over the world. We've attracted reputable faculty who are well known and highly respected in their fields to teach in our many programs through our innovative hybrid-distance delivery method that offers a mix of online, short in-person residential, and study abroad experiences to students around the world who are becoming bridge builders in their own immediate arenas. For 50 years, SSU has served our students with opportunities for academic excellence, creative and integrated thinking, spiritual formation, and global exposure, with the flexibility to earn a degree while remaining faithful to their other life obligations. Our unique curriculum cuts across polarizing narratives of left and right, liberal and conservative, by instead encouraging both ‘brave spaces’ and ‘thin spaces’ in which we enter uncomfortable and unavoidable conversations bravely and where the already/not-yet kingdom is manifested in ways that undermine division and mend broken relationships with God, self, others, and all of creation.

WE DO ALL OF THIS BY BUILDING BRIDGES THROUGH OUR SHARED VISION OF ENGAGING AND RECONCILING COMMUNITIES THROUGH A RELATIONAL, CONTEMPLATIVE, AND TRANSFORMATIVE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION.

SSU's goal is to invite 500 new bridge builders to commit to $25 CAD per month.

Context

SSU has many friends from around the world who tell us that they love our learning community, have benefitted from our impact in this world and the gifts of our wonderful faculty, care about our life-giving and innovative programs and initiatives, and believe that our unique blend of academics and the values of justice, beauty, and compassion are desperately needed in our divided and hurting world.

But they also wonder how they can support us in a tangible way that makes an impact and demonstrates their affection for SSU.

This new monthly campaign is our response.

Action

Our goal is to invite 500 new SSU supporters to give a monthly donation of $25 CAD (which is about $17 USD for our American friends). For about the same amount as a burger (or jackfruit tacos for our vegan and vegetarian friends) and a pint per month, you can divert this same amount to SSU as a way to support our students and many initiatives. Can't afford $25 a month? No problem — Any monthly donation that you give to SSU is greatly appreciated! While these donations may seem like a drop in the bucket for each of our new supporters, it’s a small sacrifice to join a community of bridge builders whose collective generosity can make a huge difference in the life of our community and in the lives of those who benefit from everything we do.

How does the money raised help SSU?

THROUGH YOUR COLLABORATION WITH SSU, the funds that we raise in this monthly campaign will go towards our scholarship and bursary fund to make sure that finances are never a barrier to an SSU education, offsetting the cost of our in-person residencies and study abroad trips to make these more affordable for our students, supporting our students through one of the largest digital libraries in the world and the most feature-rich and intuitive online learning experiences available, offering free initiatives to the public like virtual conferences and lectures and our Good on Wood podcast, adding new options for courses and programs at SSU, and enhancing our Reconciliation Studies programs in partnership with our Indigenous friends and neighbours.
