What’s the Explore21 Program about?

At St. Stephen’s University, we believe that the best learning happens outside of the classroom. That’s what the Fall 2021 Explore21 certificate program is all about. If you want to make a difference in your community but don’t quite know where to start, Explore21 is for you! The program has three elements: Core courses, volunteer experience, and travel within Atlantic Canada. All the students in Explore21 will take classes in Identity, East Coast Stories, and Community Engagement, giving them the theoretical tools and local background to contextualize their experiences. As part of the program, students will also complete a volunteer placement with a local organization, empowering them to use their skills and to make local connections. Finally, we will visit sites around New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada, to better understand local histories, cultures, and communities. Explore21 also counts towards a BA in Community Engagement, a new program at SSU for students who want the tools to build sustainable, just, and thriving communities.
