FORGIVABLE LOAN PROGRAM

SSACE, a partner of St. Stephen’s University, offers a great opportunity for your friends to participate in your educational and spiritual growth. The “Forgivable Loan Program” (FLP) permits qualifying students to receive a loan to pay for part, or all, of their tuition and living expenses.

To ensure the availability of funds, students are encouraged to solicit donations to the FLP program. Donations to the program may be made by anyone with the exception of parents, grandparents, siblings and spouse of a student applying for a loan. All gifts to the fund are receipted for income tax purposes.

Canadian Student Loans

CANADIAN STUDENT LOANS

Canadian citizens attending SSU are eligible for Canada Student Loans/Grants. Students may also be eligible for additional funds through provincial loans and bursaries. Eligibility for these funds is subject to family income restrictions established by the provinces, and is determined through the Canada Student Loan application process.

Those who intend to pay for their education by funding through a student loan program should begin the application procedure in May in order to have everything approved and ready for September. Please do not arrive in September expecting to start the application process, if you do not have the funds to cover the cost of your first term! Canadian students should have their Certificate of Eligibility and Loan Agreements at the time of registration if they wish to use their loan money as part of their payment.

Students who have not completed their paperwork by the time of registration will be responsible to pay their own fees.

MILLENIUM BURSARIES

Canadian students who receive a Canada Student Loan will automatically be considered for a Millennium Bursary.

American Student Loans

Citizens of the United States who are attending SSU may be eligible for Subsidized and/or Unsubsidized Stafford Loans, and PLUS Loans (a loan option for parents). Students wishing to receive assistance through one, or both, of these programs should proceed as follows:

1. Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. A Student Aid Report (SAR) should be received within 10 days.
Please review it carefully. If these are corrections to be made please go online and submit the correct information.

2. Forward a copy of your SAR to SSU, as soon as it is finished. The FAFSA website will tell you that we have received a copy, but that is not correct. Because we are a foreign school, we do not have access to the electronic copy.

You have several options when forwarding SSU a copy of your SAR:
      a) forward an electronic copy as an attachment in an e-mail to sheilabrooks@ssu.ca

U.S. students should have all their loan applications submitted to SSU’s designated lender, Sallie Mae Foundation, at the time of registration.

Students who have not completed their paperwork by the time of registration will be responsible to pay their own fees.

Alternative Funding

The interest is paid on a monthly basis during the program of study, and a repayment plan begins 6 months after it is completed. Programs and options vary from bank to bank.
