THE ONE-YEAR DIPLOMA PROGRAM is for any worship leader at any experience-level who desires a one year “taste” of university study, with a concentration on worship studies and spiritual formation. A High school-level education is required.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
“I’m a younger worship leader, and I’ve either led worship in smaller settings or am just beginning to lead worship. I need to learn many of the basics about the philosophy of worship leadership, leading and arranging bands, worship songwriting and developing a biblical worldview on worship. I’d like to be enriched as well by study in other fields such as spiritual formation, great thoughts in church history, theology, biblical studies, science and religion, philosophy, etc. I’d like to try out the university environment, even choose an elective course or two, though I’m not ready to commit to a four-year university education. I would like to get a taste of university life while getting a one year diploma in this area of ministry to which I believe I am called. I have not led in a part-time or full-time role in a community for more than 3 years.”
PROGRAM DETAILS:
Living on the grounds of St. Stephen’s University, this program is open to all applicants interested in gaining a year of deepening study in areas of worship studies and spiritual formation, and at the same time taking other university-level courses in biblical studies, philosophy of science and religion, leadership in contemporary and emerging worship, spiritual theology, church history, contemporary band arrangement & musicality, basic worship songwriting studies, cultivating a local worship ministry, and electives of the student’s choice. Students in this program should expect to do first year university-level reading, study and writing. St. Stephen’s University is a Christian community as well as a small university, and thus students will live on site in our dorms, and participate in a variety of levels of the community life of the school. Shared cleaning duties, and other elements of community living will be a part of the program, so student’s should expect to contribute to the life of the community in this way as well. In our words, discipleship meets academic growth in all of our SSU programs. Students receiving the Institute One Year Diploma are also eligible to continue on through the four-year program at SSU receiving credit for this year, if they so desire.
FEES:
$15,100 CAD (This fee includes tuition and room & board at $7,475 CAD per term (2), and a $75 CAD student service fee per term. Summer room & board not included.)
