BA(IS): bachelor of arts, major in international studies

The BA(IS): Bachelor of Arts, Major in International Studies includes several learning components:

  1. two preliminary years of study at SSU, where students learn to think and communicate about complex global issues in the context of a postmodern world (60 credit hours).
  2. an SSU semester in Southeast Asia (15 credit hours)
  3. an SSU semester in Europe (15 credit hours)
  4. a final year on campus in St. Stephen completing upper level courses (30 credit hours)

The BA(IS) degree requires successful completion of at least 120 credit hours (15 credit hours per semester), with a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average of 2.0 (“C”). At least 30 credit hours will be taken in formal studies and experiential learning abroad. The BA(IS) degree is typically conferred after a successful completion of four years of full-time study, which includes six semesters on campus at SSU, and two study-abroad semesters. The IS major requires at least 10 International Studies courses (30 credit hours) in the major field, 4 core courses and 7 upper level elective courses. Students with a GPA of 3.0 or higher are eligible to write a thesis pursuing research topics in International Studies.
