about ssu

St. Stephen's University operates as a private Christian University and is chartered to grant undergraduate and Masters degrees by the Province of New Brunswick as a non-profit organization.

About one third of the total operating cost of the University and virtually the entire capital cost is contributed by individuals, churches, foundations, and businesses in support of the University's aims and goals. Many people give generously of their financial resources and their professional expertise to make this unique educational experience affordable and obtainable for students.

Fees are therefore unusually low for a private, residential program. The fact that students assist in maintenance tasks and meal preparation not only adds to the quality of community life but also helps reduce the University's operating expenses.

ways to donate

REGULAR GIVING

The generous giving of friends is one of the most important ways that SSU is helped in accomplishing its mission and vision. Gifts may be directed toward particular projects at the university or given to be used where most necessary under the current circumstances. Specific needs in the area of the facilities of SSU are listed under the current development initiatives.  These current initiatives provide a tangible way to see where your donation will be used. If you are interested in contributing to the program aspects of the university including scholarship funds, visiting professors, teaching contracts, faculty development, and similar initiatives, please contact the President. We again take the opportunity to thank you for your care and concern for this university and its goals.

PLANNED GIVING

Planned giving has proved to be a responsible choice for charitable donations involving endowments, investments, insurance, loans, and estate contributions. Gift planning uses methods to make a charitable gift that maximizes the tax and estate benefits to you and your family, and that also greatly enhances the work of SSU. We would be pleased to explore these and other related options for support of this university with you. Please contact the President regarding this approach and the means that this can provide to significantly benefit the university in all its aspects now and in the future while reflecting a deliberate and careful choice about your lifetime resources.

SSACE FORGIVABLE LOAN PROGRAM

St. Stephen's Association for Christian Education (SSACE), a partner of St. Stephen's University, offers a great opportunity for you to participate in the educational and spiritual growth of our students.  The SSACE enables you to receive a tax deduction for your contribution and the university to enhance its programs.

One way that donations may be designated is to the "Forgivable Loan Program" (FLP) for students to minimize their debt.  The FLP permits qualifying students to receive a loan to pay for part, or all, of their tuition and living expenses.

To ensure the availability of funds, students are encouraged to solicit donations to the FLP program.  They must also apply to the program and meet certain criteria in order to receive the funds. Donations to the program may be made by anyone with the exception of parents, grandparents, siblings and spouse of a student applying for a loan.  All gifts to the fund are receipted for income tax purposes.
